Many office scanners only scan one side of a page. The usual workaround is to scan all the fronts, flip the stack and scan all the backs. That leaves you with two PDFs: pages 1, 3, 5… and pages 2, 4, 6… Putting them back together by hand is slow. Alternate & Mix does it automatically.
How it works
The tool takes pages from each file in turn: page 1 of the first file, page 1 of the second file, page 2 of the first file, and so on. The result is one document in the correct reading order.
Step by step
- Scan all front sides into one PDF and all back sides into a second PDF.
- Open Alternate & Mix PDF.
- Add the fronts file first and the backs file second.
- Combine and download.

The reversed-backs problem
When you flip a stack to scan the backs, they often come out in reverse order (last page first). If your result looks shuffled, reverse the order of the backs file and try again, or fix the final order with Organize PDF.
Other uses
- Interleaving a document with its translation, page by page.
- Placing question pages next to answer pages.
