How to Crop PDF Margins and Remove Extra White Space

Wide white margins waste screen space on phones and e-readers, and scans often have dark edges from the scanner lid. Cropping the page edges makes documents easier to read and look cleaner.

How to crop a PDF

  1. Open Crop PDF.
  2. Select your document.
  3. Enter how much to cut from the top, bottom, left and right in millimetres.
  4. Check the live preview.
  5. Download the cropped PDF.

When cropping helps

  • Reading academic papers or e-books on a phone or tablet.
  • Removing black scanner borders.
  • Cutting off printer marks from design proofs.
  • Focusing on a chart or table before converting it to an image.

Tips

  • Start with small values (5–10 mm) and increase gradually while watching the preview.
  • Leave a little space around text so it does not look cramped.
  • If page numbers sit in the margin, make sure you do not cut them off.

Crop vs resize

Cropping cuts away the edges. If you want to change the paper size (for example Letter to A4) while keeping all content, use Resize PDF.
