Flip PDF mirrors your pages from left to right or from top to bottom. It is useful for printing on transfer paper, fixing scans that came out mirrored, and preparing designs for t-shirt or window printing.

What does flipping a PDF do?

Flipping creates a mirror image of your pages. A horizontal flip mirrors each page from left to right, as if you were looking at it in a mirror, so text reads backwards. A vertical flip mirrors the page from top to bottom, like a reflection in water. This is different from rotating. Rotating turns the page around its centre, and the text still reads normally once you turn your head. Flipping reverses the image itself.

Why would you flip a PDF?

  • Iron-on and heat transfer printing. Designs for t-shirts, bags and fabric are printed mirrored on transfer paper, so they appear the right way round once pressed onto the material.
  • Window and glass stickers. Decals meant to be read from outside a window are printed mirrored and applied to the inside of the glass.
  • Screen printing, etching and stamps. Many printing and engraving methods need a reversed image to produce a correct final result.
  • Fixing mirrored scans. Some scanners, phone cameras and webcams save documents mirrored. Flip them back so they read normally.
  • Teleprompters and head-up displays. Text shown through a mirror or reflected on glass must be mirrored in advance.
  • Design and art. Artists flip their work to spot mistakes in proportion and balance with fresh eyes.

How to flip PDF pages

Select your PDF and choose the flip direction. “Horizontally” is the right choice for transfers, decals and mirrored scans. “Vertically” creates an upside-down mirror image. By default every page is flipped. To flip only certain pages, type their numbers in the Pages field, for example 1, 4-6. The other pages are copied without changes. Click “Flip PDF” and download your file.

Quality is preserved

The tool places the original page content on a new page using a mirroring transformation. Nothing is turned into a picture, so text, vector graphics and images stay as sharp as the original, and the printed result is crisp at any size. The page size stays the same. Pages that are displayed rotated are taken into account, so “horizontal” always means left to right as you see the page on screen.

Things to know

Links, form fields and comments are positioned for the original page, so they are not carried over to flipped pages. In most cases flipped files are meant for printing, so this is not a problem. If you need them, keep the original file as well.

Before printing on transfer paper, check the paper instructions. Some transfer papers for dark fabrics are designed to be printed without mirroring. Always print a test on normal paper first to check the size and direction.

Your files stay private

Designs and documents are processed entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to our servers, so your artwork and private documents remain yours.

Tips

  • To turn a page that is simply upside down, use Rotate PDF with 180 degrees instead of a vertical flip.
  • To place several small designs on one sheet before printing transfers, use the N-up PDF tool after flipping.
  • If your design is an image rather than a PDF, convert it with JPG to PDF first.

Mirror printing checklist

Before an expensive print run, flip a single test page, print it on plain paper and hold it up to a light or a mirror. If the text reads correctly in the mirror, your file is ready for transfer paper, window film or a printing plate. This simple check avoids wasting special materials.

How to use Flip PDF

  1. Select your PDF file.
  2. Choose horizontal or vertical flip and, if you want, the pages.
  3. Click "Flip PDF" and download the result.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference with rotating?

Rotating turns the page around. Flipping makes a mirror image, so text reads backwards.

Do links still work?

Links and form fields on flipped pages are removed because their position would no longer match.

Can I flip a single page?

Yes. Type the page number in the Pages field and only that page is flipped.

Will the printed size change?

No. Flipped pages keep the same size as the original pages.

How do I flip an image instead of a PDF?

Use the Rotate and Flip Image tool, which works directly with JPG, PNG and WebP files.

Is this tool really free?

Yes. All tools on this website are free to use, with no sign-up needed.

Are my files and data safe?

Yes. Everything is processed inside your own browser. Your files and text are not uploaded to our servers.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. The tools work on modern phones, tablets and computers.
